IVF 5: Getting Stuck

HOW TO MAKE INFERTILITY FEEL A LITTLE LESS OVERWHELMING

Three pre-egg retrieval acupuncture appointments are now complete.

In addition to the office’s soothing music and serene paintings of sailboats, what I’ve liked most about the experience is that the point of each session is relaxation. Your only job while you’re there is to relax, of which I’ve fortunately done a decent job to this point.

The only stress I’ve felt has been due to, a) trying not to jar any needles loose while scratching my nose, and b) waking myself up with my snoring toward the end of my second appointment. The office has pretty thin walls, so there’s no clue who else I woke up as well.

Other than that…

Least favorite needle insertion points? Inside the top of my ears, and between my biggest and second-biggest toes.

Surprisingly painless needle insertion point? The top of my head. And they like to jam a few in there.

Onto appointment number 4…
